What is ‘The EDGE’?

A secondary school enrichment framework designed for holistic growth

The EDGE Programme is an in-house, bespoke initiative led by students, for students — a space designed to help them explore their passions, develop new skills, and make a meaningful impact within and beyond our school community. In addition to offering rich learning experiences, The EDGE Programme also helps students build a strong personal profile, showcasing their leadership, creativity, initiative, and commitment to growth. These experiences can support future university applications, scholarship opportunities, and career pathways, giving students a meaningful advantage as they progress through their educational journey.

The EDGE programme student testimonies

I was first introduced to The EDGE Programme by Miss Charlotte via the school, AGS, who encouraged me to take part and explore the different opportunities it offered. Since then, I have been involved in EDGE Talks where I gave my own speech, EDGE Voices where I helped make a student-led magazine, and EDGE Labs where I built models to benefit the world. Each gave me a unique experience.
Working on these components has helped me develop stronger communication, teamwork, and organisational skills. It has also made me more confident when taking leadership and taking accountability. These experiences are already helping me now in school — especially in managing projects, collaborating with classmates, and staying disciplined with my work. Looking ahead, I know the skills I’ve gained from EDGE will continue to support me. The leadership experience will help me in future roles, the teamwork skills will be valuable in any group environment, and the discipline I’ve built will stay with me throughout my academic and personal life.
The EDGE Programme has played a meaningful role in my growth, and I’m grateful for the opportunities it has given me.

The EDGE truly has benefited me in ways I can’t begin to describe. I think I can start with my first ever EDGE talks speech. This speech was done in the canteen Wednesday and nervous me was standing there confused with a sheet in hand. But that speech got me into EDGE voices, mentors and now challenges. EDGE challenges let me participate in MUN where I met new people. Made new friends and banded together to solve real world problems, testing my leadership. Integrity and working as a team. EDGE voices has let me participate in the student magazine, providing testimony. And representing the student body. Being able to represent the student body through a piece of text alone is an honour and something I can’t fathom that it is me, a random boy from year 7 that was picked to be a representative. EDGE mentors let me see the differences in people’s ability and ways they learn. There is nothing that makes me happier than hearing a ‘’thank you’’ and seeing a smile on someone else’s face. EDGE mentors let me do just that by being able to personally tutor students I feel like I’m making a real difference in the school’s intelligence, even if it’s just one student at a time. Overall EDGE has helped me grow at rates ive never seen before.

Leading EDGE Talks has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my school career. As the EDGE Talks Leader, my role was to represent the programme, lead my peers, and ensure each session ran smoothly. Stepping into this visible leadership position challenged me to grow in confidence and develop my communication skills. I learned the importance of listening, supporting others in expressing themselves, and leading by example. This experience taught me that leadership is not just about managing tasks, but about showing presence, responsibility, and empathy — lessons I will carry with me long beyond school."

Participating in The EDGE Programme as a speaker for our TEDx-style component, EDGE Talks, was a transformative experience that pushed me to be an even better version of myself. Taking on the challenge of researching, writing, and delivering a powerful narrative taught me the true art of public speaking. It wasn't just about the final presentation; it was about the rigorous process of refining an idea worth spreading and learning to engage an audience authentically.
This component has been a massive catalyst for my personal growth. It significantly boosted my confidence and sharpened my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, skills that I know will be invaluable in my future academic and professional life. I’m grateful to be part of The EDGE - for providing a platform where student voices aren't just heard, but are given the tools to resonate. I truly can't wait to participate in more of the EDGE components!
